shock questions

My shocks are so shot I feel like I'm riding a bike.

I would like OME, but I'm on a very tight budget.

Any good deals out there? Anyone who has some cheapos on there rigs?

I just got a new set of ProComps, but I can't compete money wise with $78 lol.
My 2" extension ES3000s were 185 for all four and ride like a dream, but that may not be comprable to a set for under $100.

No, CRafferty, I still value your input. When the money comes back I'll be getting new shocks to accommodate the lift from LC\FJ80 Coils, and ball joints up front.

Yea, I put in some spacers in my rear and the sag is still there, it's actually way more noticeable with the spacers and orrigional coils in it. I'm thinking of using some Grad. money to throw down for a set of Cruiser Coils or some from Pro Comp. Those ES3000 work really well with the lift though.

I'll second the Monroes. I had a rear shock on my old setup break on me and I knew I would be completely re-doing the suspension within a year. So I got a pair of plain old Monro-matics through Rock Auto for something like $17 each just to get me by. They actually worked very well though. You could do worse. Like Lummpus, it looks like I could get all 4 today for right in the neighborhood of $78. Good luck.

See thats the same boat I'm in I'm thinkin in the next year or so I'm getting my lift and 33's. There was no point in spending alot of money on shocks. Mine were so bad I took them off and compressed them and they never popper back out.

I'm pretty sure mine are that bad. lol. I have some blue ones up front, no idea on the brand, and Gabriels in the rear, they are old and rusty, and probably from the 2nd of 3rd PO.

Not all shocks do extend on their own. If they aren't gas charged, they will stay wherever you put them.

Is Bilstein still doing their "Buy 3 get 1 free" special? I've never ran them, so I can't comment on their performance.

I have the Rancho 5000s on my truck. I installed them about 3000 miles ago. They aren't the best, but they get the job done. They are infinitely better than the 20+ year old shocks that were on the truck when I first got it!!

$120 shipped for a set of es3000 and $28 extra for the upgrade to the es5000. Can't beat it.

Monroe are crap.

Do yourself a favor & go to www.sparkplugs.com and buy a set of KYB Gas-A-Just shocks. Great vaule for price. Bilstein are VERY good & both of these will outlast Monroe & give better performance x4.

I just bought a '92 Pickup, the PO put some KYB's on them and they suck!

They are super stiff, it's like riding on rocks.

I have a set of Rancho RS5000's for the rear, but I have heard bad things about them too.

I may have to go with Bilstein or OME.

Yeah. So opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has one and everyone thinks theirs doesn't stink.

Read here long enough and someone will tell you Procomp sucks, Monroe sucks, KYB sucks, Rancho sucks, Dick Cepek sucks, Skyjacker and Rough Country suck, Blah blah blah

Even then they will argue between Fox, Sway a way, OME, Bilstein, Donahoe, IKON. It never ends. I think in a certain price range one gets a certain amount of engineering. If someone else tells you "yeah I had to live in the $20 neighborhood for a while and it wasn't so bad" then great. On the other hand, if they tell you to do whatever it takes to get into the $50 neighborhood, that info is worth something too. I'm just saying, my time in the $20's wasn't so bad.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Talking

In my honest opinion - Procomp and Monroe and KYB and Rancho and Dick Cepek and Skyjacker and Rough Country all suck, Blah blah blah!!

But on the other hand - Procomp and Monroe and KYB and Rancho and Dick Cepek and Skyjacker and Rough Country are totally awesome!!

I'm just messin around - I really don't have much of an opinion since I have really only had a few kinds of shocks on my truck ever. Right now I have some OME's in front and BLKNBLU's old Monroes in back - I have not complaints about either of them as they both get the job done and were budget friendly at the time I made each purchase.

if you are looking for cheap shocks I dont think it matters what you buy. Anything will work and all of them will probably give the same ride

I discovered my front shocks were garbage while replacing the CV shafts....I picked up some $17 Gabriels from Autozone(or Advanced). The price was right and they are not broke like the ones I removed. When I come into money, I'll opt for some better quality. I have also read that Toyota replacements are not very expensive and offer significantly better quality than the chain store economy brand.......just food for thought.
