I just did mine today. Took about 10 minutes all together. My old shifter seat was all in pieces. I had to pick it out. I can def. really notice a difference in the shifting. Really easy mod

could depend on the transmission... well obviously it does if you're able to do this in 10 minutes.

I have the G52. I dont know what was in my brothers former 85 or our 2wd 87 but they all had the cup with spring in it you have to push and turn. The T-case shifter is much easier to take out =P

I know what he is talking about. He has the W56 trans. With the shifter boot up there is a cup thet as around the stick. Push it down with both of your thumbs and turn it about 20deg or so to the left and it will pop up. Then pull the shifter out!

I would like to order both pieces for my shifter (and also my transfer case shifter too?) but the shipping I was quoted to Canada was over $40US. Seem's pretty pricey for $17 worth of parts.

3) Pull the shift knobs off.

How do you get the two bolts at the front of the shifter plate out, I don't have enough room to get in there....

I was thinking of cutting another access panel.

Have you all seen the shift knobs from MC? I just found one for the tranny, looks really cool, Im thinkin about getting it.

Hey TobaYota - you might have to remove that piece in front of it. Its like a little pocket thing. Its below the ashtray. Wait im talking about the wrong thing. Are you sure you have to do the 4 bolts on top of the tranny? I thought you just throw it in like the video on MCs site...?

Yeah, I am more interested in changing the gasket underneath the shifter plate because I got oil leaking like a bugger. The two bolts at the front of that plate I can't get a socket on, or turn a wrench. I am thinking I will drill two access holes under the carpet and just cover it with sheetmetal after.

All you have to do is put an impact wrench on the crossmember bolts (PB Blaster first!) and drop the tranny down about 1 inch, then you can get to the bolts. Just don't do like I did & drive it like that dangling from the bolts for 150 miles!

Did you happen to read the entire thread? If so then you can probably go to Marlin Crawler (online) and order the bushings.
