Will the same shifter work for a 4 cly Tranny (W56) to a V-6 5-Speed?

I believe they are different. I'm basing this off the fact that if you look at websites like LC Engineering and URD, who sell short throw shifters, they sell different shifters for the V6 trans and the 4 Cylinder trans.

Anyone else could probably give you a slightly better explanation, but I just dont know the major difference.

 

can shifters be rebuilt??? I looked up parts on advance and autozone...didnt seem to find anything. I cant stand having a sloppy gear shift and seems as though there should be a bushing of some sort in there that would cure that problem...any takers?

where you find those bushings at? I havent been able to locate one anywhere...

 

MarlinCrawler.com is the ONLY place you will find them.

And it's actually the shifter seat that causes the most noticeable looseness in the shifter. The part shown above is the socket, and is the least likey to cause looseness or need replaced. But if you're going to replace one, you should replace the other at the same time just in case.



It's also a good idea to replace the boot on the shifter lever if it's cracked. The small rubber boot that you have to move out of the way to remove the shifter and replace those parts is what I'm talking about. It's called the shift handle boot, and Marlin also sells them. Not the 2 upper boots that are bolted to the floor of the cab.
