Shift lock fix and power steering

First - I have a 1990 22re SR5 AUTO pickup - is there a repair for the shift lock, stopped unlocking when Depressing the thumb button on my auto shift stick so I now need to depress the override button to get it out of park. Everything else shifts normal.

Also my truck does not have power steering and I am considering adding it but am I better off getting used components from a donor truck or new aftermarket? Thanks any information much appreciated

Do you have your foot on the brake? The thumb button mechanically holds the shifter, but the shift lock system (the part you are overriding) is electrical, and keeps you from shifting without the brake depressed.
