this is funny, for one, solid axle trucks are more dependible, but they are not stronger! you point the tire strait on an IFS truck and a SFA and hammer down, the SFA will break first every time, but turn the wheels to full lock and put a rock under the tire and the SFA will most likely walk away and the IFS will most likely be in bits and pieces. the SFA is only better for articulation and heavy tires. but 35" tires and crap driving will break both. ive done some really bad things to my IFS and its not that bad, hell its almoust impressive.
i am planning to go full on rock crawling with my IFS toyota this year and i am not feeling to brave, but i have 34" LTBs welded rear and open front, I hope she stayes together.. Does anybody know where i can find some videos of guys (or gals) rock crawling with IFS toyota.

 

plus IFS rides better on the road and off road at higher speeds (anything over 15 mph) but it doas have twice as many parts to break and the steering just doesn't hold up to anything bigger then stock tires and off road abuse.. but im hard headed and i was going to do an SAS but now i want to see just how far and hard i can push that "inferior front suspension".

The first guy is the one of just a few guys I know that actually has run the IFS on their trucks completely into the ground. The truck literally could not hold together for a single run. Far too much power, gearing and trail for it.

Ok time for a summary: IFS sucks SAS is better, no way 99.9999% of the people with SAS will never use it, yea well my truck is the , no way mines the , oh mah gawd im so coool, hey I like spending money on parts, you are so cool are you 16?, no im 15 b**** I got a passion, really? you got a passion for fashion, oh mah gawd this is funny, im 20, IFS is the , SAS rules, IFS is the best, Nobody needs SAS.

oh, I'm not a rockcrawler guy, I run trails, logging roads, mountain passes, deep snow....not huge rock-gardens...I hate huge rocks, but I LOVE SA'd YOTAS. Wish I woulda never sold my 83

I can't wait to take her wheeling for the first time. My 87 4x4 is fine on the trails I run, I mean I really don't need a SFA to get me anywhere I need to go, but it's gonna be sweet having the runner!

 

Ok sorry to be a d*ck but the fact is... you need sas when you don't know how to drive or pick the right line. If you do know how to pick a good line and your not climbing 4 foot rocks your ifs will do fine, 4 wheeling is 75% driver and 25% truck, relying on your truck is what sas'd rigs do. But at a certain point the best driver in the world will need a sas to do something if everybody understand what I am saying

I hope you mean the military Hummer not the civilian. At a local 4x4 spot here in Canada my almost stock 4Runner went up a rock climb, but a 2006 H2 got hung up. (only due to it's size - can't pick a line) - Oh did I mention it got unstuck by an FJ40 double locked arb and 35's? They wouldnt let me do it, but I SO wanted too....

 

youll have to sign up for the of4wd camp nl this year, there is usually a couple of those h rigs there. sooner or later, one will get stuck and need to be recovered, make sure you sign up for the trail they are on and que up in front of them!

The military style one can climb a two foot verticle wall from a stop. It also runs a v-12 diesel if I remember correctly. But they aren't meant for rock climbing, made to transport 5 troops and also stop a couple bullets along the way.

 

I have to admit IFS is impresive if you have it set up right I took my 82 yota 4x4 (SA set up on long travel) and my friend had his 92 yota 4x4 (IFS with T-bar tweak/rear block) and he went everywhere I did with no problem

 

In my opinion, that is a COMPLETELY VALID reason to go SAS. I like the look of a SAS'd truck a WHOLE lot more than IFS.

The point of this tread was to dispute the idea that IFS couldn't be wheeled, and wheeled hard. It can be.

Too many newbs think you need a SAS to be able to even go in the dirt.

 

ive ran one trail so far that i couldve used more flex on, but even then if i was locked it wouldnt of been a problem.

But being that i love my truck, and working on it, im still going to sas, just because i can and want to run bigger tires.

 

The Hummer (H1) is completely Awesome, is made by A.M. General, has IFS, and costs about $150,000 a copy. The G.M. (H2) is a square bodied Suburban chassis, made to look like an H1, for about $50,000 a copy.

I cant believe no one has mentioned, that one advantage of IFS is that it keeps the differential above the axle centers. That equals more ground clearance.
