seeking 22re timing chain advice?

Hello all, my 88 22re with 158k miles is starting to make the famous timing chain noise, I'm gonna go ahead and fix the problem before it gets bad, I'm going with LCE PARTS, my question is would yall stick with the single chain and get the kit with the metal guides instead of plastic or would you go ahead and get the dual row conversion kit, I greatly appreciate all input thank you all.

My 81 with a stock dual row has at least 175k, if not 275k miles and still going strong. No timing chain rattle like my 95 had at 175k miles. Whether the dual row chain or the metal guides plays bigger part in that, I don't know.

metal or plastic both wear and leave shavings in your pan for the pick up screen to suck up and cause a low oil pressure problem. always pull your pan and clean the screen when you do a chain job.

Go to engnbldr.com get his for half the price and it comes with the metal and works great and they stand behind their stuff

I went with LC Engineer double row chain kit.I know its a little more $$ than the others but it comes with everthing. One of the nicest quality pieces ive seen.It comes with a new timing chain housing also. After replacement all noise was gone and it was quieter than ever. I look at it this way..Do it once with quality parts and be done with it.

Hello,
I have a 94 p/u 22re with a rattle that goes away under load. I have traced the noise with a stethoscope to behind the water pump. (timing chain...)
new parts:
engnbldr head
261 cam
cloyes t-chain set
all new gaskets.
I just installed an oil pressure gage and pressure is 20psi. at idle and 70psi. max.
This seems to be in spec.
Any help or suggestions would be great.

my double row 20r chain never wore out in 200k miles.
the single row chain on my 22re was replaced about four times in 264k miles.
they have the cheesiest chain.
