Why does everyone say that seamfoaming craps out their O2 sensor?

They say it is safe for the O2. I'll keep swapping in my old junky sensor before seafoaming though. At $80, better safe than sorry.

 

It's not about the product, it's about the gunk that the product removes. That stuff has to go somewhere, and it's generally out the manifold, down the pipe and that hot goopy gunk will collect on anything in it's path - like the working edge of an O2 sensor.

SeaFoam itself is fine for the sensor, heck, soak a sensor in it overnight to help clean it... ...after the gunk from the engine gets on it.

 

Probably dumped in more than a 1/3 rd of a bottle today. Now that was funny, blew smoke for 10 min! Wife made me leave the neighborhood.

 

Bah... O2 sensors are for hypochondriacs. I don't feel like the beast is runnin right unless the check engine light is on. The day that check engine light goes out is the day it's finally given up the ghost. Or the day I plug that sensor back in. Which ever comes first...

 

I bought seafoam this morning and new set of plugs.. I gonna give it a try and see what happens.. I kinda agree with swamp as long as truck is running ok , i could care less about that light

 

But how do you know the O2 sensor is the only thing causing the CEL??? I wouldnt want to live with that because it could be masking another problem the whole time. Thats my thought on that.

 

Lot more peace of mind. If its always on, you aint freak out every time your truck throws a code.

But naw, I usually check for new codes every week or so.

 

What exactly does this product do?
My engine has low level ringing or pinging sound when idling.

 

I just poured some in it.. It was smoking like a freight train before i got done pouring it in.. I guess my system is really dirty.. I'm gonna give it 10 or 15 minutes and burn it out and prolly do it again.. Does anyone know if it will stop smoking once its clean or will a clean motor smoke too???

 

It shouldn't smoke as much. Maybe a little, but nowhere near the freight train type smoke.

 

I stopped by autozoneand picked up a can of seafoam today after reading this thread. poured it in thruogh tthe brake boost line and let it sit for fiveminutes. got a lot of bluish white smoke initially then it diminished. i guess my engine was pretty clean(137,000 miles) I just bought it a few months ago and it is in mint condition looks like someone really took care of it.Now for the wife's bomber 85 accord 272000 miles it just won't die. Either this sea foam will kill it or make it stronger.

 

Well, if you dump it in too fast you could hydro lock & bend a rod or blow a head gasket, but other than that, IT IS NOT GOING TO HURT YOUR TRUCK!!

 

The hydro lock , I wonder is that about the same thing we call either lock on deisel engines?
