SeaFoam

Before you tell me to search, I did. And there are about 1K posts on it. Instead of sifting thru 18 pages in one forum, I am looking for highlites on using it with a 22RE.

I plan to do it just prior to plugs/fuel filter, I will also use a TB cleaner on the TB and MAF. I will use it in the oil prior to a change, proablly this coming winter, I love Amsoil..

Will this mess up the TPS if it hits it?

I am not looking for another 18 page forum, just highlites. Thank You.

I pulled a small tube off the t-body the 'r' ?? perhaps VERY SLOWLY I sucked out of a clear H2O bottle the seafoam...
followed directions whitch I do not remember of the top and started the truck 15 20 min later to huge clouds of white smoke for about 5 min...

I thought it really helped but knew it was a stop gap for the injectors that were I believe the origionals.

have fun good luck

From what I have read I look foreword to the cleaner engine. This was my brother in-laws rig from 80-150K. I know he abused the crap out of it since he had it in high school, and boys will be boys. Looking back I am glad I got thru in my dads chevy truck with just 2 sets of tires and one tranny....and it still runs strong at 200K.

How many bottles did you use?

I personally use GMs top engine clean, but seafoam is used in the same manner. Just suck it through your pcv hose real slow for 1/2 of the can. The second half, slam the can so the motor stumbles and runs rough without hydrolocking. (Or alternatively use 2 cans.) Then shut the engine off. Go to lunch or walk away for an hour or two, then come back and start it up. White smoke will pour out. Drive it around a little bit until the white smoke is gone, then change your oil.

Old timers used to spray water with a spray bottle through the carb (or TB in FI vehicles). This effectively provides "steam cleaning" of the combustion chamber, and you'll see a black streak where your exhaust hits the ground. Cheap and safe. Don't use ice cold water. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Safe as long as you don't use ice cold water?

So on a 3vze, we would just take the air filter off, and spray some water up the intake?
I've never tried running without the MAF or whatever is between the air filter and intake manifold, but my impression is the engine wouldn't run because the computer would cut the fuel, thinking there is no air flow in.

I know that a RE wont run without the MAF so??? I think I'll bypass steam cleaning my engine, its not a turbine....Seafoam is pretty cheap anyhow.

No, an FI engine won't run without a MAF sensor in most cases. GM will substitute a dedicated program to run the motor if the MAF in not functional, but most makers will fall flat on their face if you unplug or bypass a MAF.

You want to use warm water. If you were to use ice cold water you open yourself up to all sorts of cold problems, mainly cracking the edges of hot valves. That case holds true for coolant too. I've seen a lot of guys put in cold coolant into a hot motor, although you can get away with it most of the time, why take the risk?

I've used water at room temp to do the steam clean. There is a really small vacuum line (hard plastic) that runs along the top of the firewall (on a 92 3.0). It has constant vacuum. I've found it's easier to do Seafoam treatments using that vacuum source becuase of the diameter of the line. Since it's smaller than the brake booster line, you can more easily control the amount of water/Seafoam that the engine is taking up.
