RV2 can install question
Hi,
I'm working on a 1992 22RE. The truck is a 1990 4x4, reg. cab. I've got the engine torn apart to replace the head gasket and timing chain. I've been thinking about putting in an RV2 camshaft from yotashop.com. I have never changed a cam before.
With the engine already apart, is installing a new cam as simple as basically unbolting the old and replacing it with the new, then adjusting the valve clearances when I put it back together, or is there more to it? I also have new head bolts to use when I reassemble.

No it really is that simple when its torn down like that. Now I use Delta Cams regrinds so far so good, much better than stock profile.
I have a 272 cam going in the new engine, and I think a 260 in the other truck. The one really does idle nice. The 272 is for play. You really don't want to stray far from a good idle. Radical profiles are for competition, leave them at the track.

That's good news -- thanks. I was just wanting to make the truck a little more fun for everyday driving. I agree regarding idle; a good idle is important. Which of those two cams would you suggest (260 or 272)? Thanks

I ordered a cam last night, a Delta 272. When I install it, do I need to use any special lube, or just engine oil? I know I've heard of cam lube, but am not sure if that's necessary.

I have this week off work and am hoping to get a lot done on the truck. So if I swap the camshaft, put the new sprocket on it, and install the new timing chain, how do I know I have the new cam in the correct position? The crankshaft is still at TDC on the compression stroke. Thanks again

Thank you, didn't realize the crank sprocket also had a marking. Speaking of the crank sprocket, I found that the old one was missing a few teeth! Nice
