Rust repair...

I removed the darn running boards, and was left with some nice rusted areas all exposed. I am trying to fix the rust problem, trying being the operative word here. I have done a croppy job so far, sanded/cut out the loose stuff, sprayed with this anti rust stuff, then primed. There are some nice voids between what is left of the exterior panels, and the interior panels. Before I put the plastic "guards" back on, can I spray the expanding foam stuff up and into the voids? I know it's tacky, and not the way to do things, but the stuff is water proof, can be painted, etc. Are there any other products to fill smaller voids in the armor? I kind of remember something called Bondo. Needless to say, I am not a professional, nor am I looking to make a professional repair.

Any ideas?

can you weld?

Hey dude, feelin your pain! went through the same thing with my runner when I pulled all that useless crap off. What I did was went to lowes and purchased a thick peice of sheet metal. "the next part is no fun!" Cut out all the rusty stuff and sand the crap out of the surrounding sheet metal. Cut peices to patch in as best you can and tack weld them into the voids. when you get them all tacked up you will have a nice foundation to work some of that nice bondo onto. You dont have to do a superwonderful job cause the plastic is gonna cover it up anyway. took me an entire day to fix those frikn things! Good luck

No, I can't weld, but I think a friend of mine does, or at least used to. I'll have to ask him. That might be an option. I was just wodering if anyone had used the foam for this purpose before!

Thanks

The foam won't stop the spread of rust. It will only patch and not hold up TOO well. I used the foam on my floor/bed of my K5 and after some flex the foam chipped away.

"panel bonder" is always an option ...

it's a 2 part epoxy .. and if done right , is actually better then a weld ! no kidding , I use this stuff all the time , and *3M actually guarentees the bond for life .. if done right !!

with this stuff , you dont have to know how to weld ..

dont use "foam" crap to fill the voids ... it will only attract more rust ...
