rotors
Hey, im slowly building parts up to do the brakes/hubs(locking hubs )/ and axles up front. ive searched the sight and the read a bunch. I dont want to do the tundra upgrade cause i never tow anything and i dont want differant wheels. so basically i want some feed back on slotted rotors vs pplain and the cryo treated vs not. and where is a good place to buy. tirerack.com is where i got my pads, hawk ferrow-carbon. but their rotors were all in the 100-120 dollar range. on on link someone mentioned lc somthing and they were like 40 bucks. anyway, let me know

After 2 sets of warped raybestos rotors, and after reading some on here, I went OEM on my 90 runner. This was back in 97. Made a few mods to the cooling vents on the dust shield just to make them flow more air, but stayed OEM even now. All has worked well. Pay attention to torque specs and tightening patterns.

This topic was discussed, often times very heated, in this thread:

If you have a V6, you have the best brakes toyota made for your truck. The tundra upgrade is not an option since you have a 2nd gen 4Runner, and it only fits 3rd gens.
I am with Waskilly on this one. Just need some new pads and turned/new stock rotors, and you will be golden.

I replaced my rotors about 100,000 miles ago with Brembo rotors I got at Autozone. I've had no problems and they weren't too expensive. I'm not going to fire up the old slotted rotor/stock rotor debate. This is just what worked for me.

Timken is a very good name in bearings. I dont think that Timkens cost 200 bucks though. I think thats just toyotas markup. If you can get timkens and they dont break the bank, go with them. Otherwise get what you can afford and service them at least every 30k miles.
BTW, make sure you get the new races with new bearings.

Dont know about a cup or cone. Usally choose a cone though from brusters.
If you ask for the bearings and races, they should know what to give you. There should not be a choice. Thats what they are called. Now if the guy behind the counter says he has the cupped style and the cone style, he may be talking about the bearing (cone) and race (cup) but you need to verify that and set him straight about what hes supposed to call them.

I would go with OEM toyota (Koyo) and nothing else but I'm weird like that..
What ever u do, dont get trail gear bearings stamped CHINA. I have held one in my hand and it is the most worthless POS I have ever seen.
I might be able to get you a cheaper price than the Toyota dealer on OEM if you are interested.
If you purchase bearings they should come WITH new races. Do not mix up the races and bearings as each bearing is made to fit each race specifically.

I got a new set of wheel bearings and trunnion bearings from the dealer with my discount and they were still $200+ for all of them.
As far as TG wheel bearings, which we sell, I have put them in 3 of my own vehicles with no problems or issues. I've sold numerous others with the same results. I've also compared the TG ones to OEM wheel bearings and they mic out the same.

Timkin is a good bearing.
The cup is the race, the cone is the bearing....you replace both.
Sometimes wheel bearings are a set (both cup and cone together in 1 box)
Each wheel has a inner and outer bearing. Don't forget the wheel seal.
Timken #'s:
inner cup....JLM104910
inner cone...JLM104948
Outer brg set...BR50
