rocker peck?

I have a 89 pickup with the 3.0.

The rockers have a little peck in them. I drive the truck alot and really need to depend on it not taking a dump somewhere out on the road.

The truck has right at 200,000 onit. Should I let it go or should I fix? the passenger side looks like a problem. The drivers not so bad. The worst one is on the drivers.

Is there a thread telling the process of how to do it?

Thanks!

"peck"?

are you talking about valve tapping, as in noise?

yes I guess it would be "valve Tapping"...It is pecking in the top end.

Pics? Why? It just looks like a pain to get the passenger side valve cover off. The intake is over it.

lol i thought you meant you had the valve cover off and you saw a peck..anyways youll prolly have to adjust the valves but on a 3.0 its not an easy task, maybe change your oil with some thicker weight for the time being

theres no rockers in a 3.0...... just a cam and tappet valves.... they do get some noise over time but not so much alot of it is prolly ur injectors ur hearing. hows the oil? if its low you will hear more engine noise.... switch to 10w40 and see if it helps.

I've found the fuel dampener makes one HELLUVA ticking sound; add the injectors and it's a regular cacophony of sound under the hood!

maybe that is what it is.....the fuels system?

I run 10-49 with Lucas additive. It is almost new. Still clear on the stick.

I guess I didn't know that stuff made a racket.? Had no idea one could hear injectors. THis is the first vehicle I have owned that had injectors.

thought he was saying a speck on his rocker panels

200K on a 3.0 is doing pretty dang good. I am a little confused though:

might be a PITA to take off the PS valve cover but might be worth examining.
There is a link to Factory service manuals in my signature, you should find what you need there...

If you take care of the 3.0 it will last long time i had one with 290,000 Miles on it before i sold it. Try thicker oil if not i would not worry about it. If it does not cause drivabliity probs let the sleeping dog lay.
