I was having multiple problems with my 1981 Toyota Sunrader motor home. I changed carburetors even though the one on the truck was rebuilt by a reputable shop. When I put the replacement carb on, a donation from a friend, it seemed to run fine but was running very rich. After about two days of following vacuum lines and even taking out the steel plug that covers the idle mixture adjustment and trying to adjust that, it still ran rich. As I was about to give up, I scoped out the vacuum lines one more time. I noticed that I had put a vacuum hose right over a plug. With poor lighting, it appeared to be a port. I removed the plug and put the hose on the port and found the engine ran fine with no black smoke. I am not advertising my stupidity but I've talked to others since then and find many others have made the same mistake. I take my reputation in hand by writing this but I thought my pride should be bypassed in this case.

im having the same plm, i just failed emissions by about 2x the limi; i have a feeling that im running a rich mixture due to the fact that recently i have been burning fuel at a faster rate than normal... i removed my air filter from my 85 Toyota in order to remove a bolt from my starter.. i can swear i never removed any vaccum lines or turned any adjustment screws in my carb... but being the curious one that i am; i was playing with the throttle cable and flaps to my carb... oops... cld i have tweaked my carb... burning more fuel, higher emissions.. sound like a rich mixture? if so how can i bring it back to normal or what else can i do to fix my plm
