Responsible for seal leaking?
So I got a clutch job done a week ago and heres what got replaced : clutch kit/new flywheel/rear main seal/clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder.Now the rear main seal is leaking.My question is:does the shop have to fix it?.Ive got a 12k or 12 month warranty.

I will,got a feeling theyre gonna hate it when I call.Thats no easy job.Is it common for it to leak? Why would it leak if its brand new?

It would leak if it's brand new and was damaged during install. When you call, don't be a jerk about it, just request that they fix it, and all should be fine unless they plan on reneging on the warranty.

Alright thanks Magnusian,yeah I will be nice/respectful mostly because I want them to fix it,lol.I had no leaks before I took it to them.I suppose paying them to install a new back plate/dust shield is a good idea while they are replacing the seal.There was no cover over the flywheel when I bought it last august.

Do you mean no cover *under* the flywheel? And there shouldn't be any extra labor for installing it, they would have to R&R that plate anyway. Don't let them charge you labor for that.
Where did you have this work done? Wasn't it you that was recently quoted a crazy dollar amount to do this work from the stealership? Like $1,600 or something?
FWIW, I installed a new rear main seal when I replaced the motor back in June '08. Besides the occasional start and let warm up, it sat up until about a month ago due to needing so much front end work. After just a few test drives with some new front end components, the rear main started leaking, so I got to go in and replace that recently. I was much more careful installing it this time!

Yes that was me with the whacko stealership quote of 1800$ just for labor.I took it to a place called farmers repair,did the whole job + parts for 858$

It was replaced as part of the job, it's under warranty.
Without the dust shield there's actually gap between the bellhousing and stiffener brackets...
Crummy aftermarket parts or rushed installation perhaps?

Im thinking rushed installation.Also heard from others on here that having no shield over the lower part of the flywheel is a bad thing.
