Replacing side view mirror on 93 pickup

Just picked up a '93 pickup and I'm wondering how to remove the passenger side view mirror. The current one, where the mirror housing sits on the ball, it's real loose and the thing just flops around, so I plan to replace it.

I've done a search, couldn't find anything regarding this. Basically, do I need to remove the interior door panel? Or, can I work on the mirror from the outside?
Thought I'd ask here before I start tearing things apart.

The sideviews are on a door with pop out vent windows, if that helps.

There is a little black plastic cover over the mirror bolts on the inside of the cab, Pop that off and it reveals 3 Phillips screws.
I don't remember how long the wiring harness is for the electric morrors and don't know if you have to pull the door panel to unplug them.

I think the mirrors on the side-vent trucks are bolted onto the side of the door. (w/o the side vent it sits where the vent would be).

I have electric mirrors (they are different than manual, which sounds like what you have) and side-vents. There is a trim plate on the lower half of the part that is closest to the door; that pops off with a screwdriver exposing the screws. That's all there is to it.
