Replace dash blanks with USB extension

Im looking to replace my Dash blank with a USB switch that will charge my phone or act as a extension to my stereo deck. I order a universal one but it wouldn’t lock into place kept falling out. Does anyone know of a usb style switch the will fit in the hole to replace the dash blank circle in red?

The ones that say "fits Toyota" on eBay, don't fit ours. I think new(er) Toyotas have smaller switch blanks. If you search "Toyota Switch Blank" on eBay, you might find something that fits (there were 3k hits but some might actually have been the older size). For mine, I just used an existing switch blank and really carefully dremeled and filed it out little by little to fit. I thought I had taken pictures of the process, but not finding them. I remember using blue painters tape to mark on and get the initial layout on.

I did the same with a “ebay fits a toyota” I dremel out a blank to make it work but it just looks ugly and falls out whenever I unplug a cord.

While I've never used a for-real Brand Name Contura switch, I'm pretty sure that the blanks we have are designed to fit Contura-style switches. These (for some reason) are popular in marine applications. You might try something like that.

Well I remember spending a silly amount of time on mine, like 2-3 hours... Mine came out good, but I think the very edges got SUPER thin. I went out to look at mine just now and along the bottom I see a hint of hot glue. I think I had the same issue with mine coming out when unplugging cables and just added some hot glue around the edges to lock it in without doing anything un-reversable.

96 seems to be the cutoff for the readily available "fits Toyota" stuff. I can't tell if the CONTURA stuff falls into the earlier models. That would sure be worth trying out though! Not much of a Toyota expert, this is my first. The two from 25+yrs ago don't count as I never modded them or even really worked on them.

You can defiantly get lost down an internet rabbit hole researching this one....

I went up and measured the cutout plate in my truck: 24mmx42mm. I didn't pull the plate, but presumably the mounting hole is just a tad smaller. Contura is a trademark of Carling, and they say the required mounting hole is 21.08mm x 36.83mm https://www.carlingtech.com/rocker-s...-series-ii-iii That sure sounds right; if you have your mounting hole accessible you might just measure it for all our benefit.

Carling does make their own dual usb port. https://www.carlingtech.com/controls-v-charger This eBay seller claims theirs is Contura "style." https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-USB-Ch...-/172533349205

But what about the one I cited earlier?

They give measurements, and claim the required mounting hole is 37.2mmx21.2mm - just the tiniest fraction too large! They give the outside measurements, and at 45mm it's just too long. But if you look closely at the photo with the measurements, that can't be right. You can measure it right on your screen, and the measurements aren't in proportion.

Last, all this "analysis" depends on my guess that a Contura style switch would fit. I'm guessing that yours fit well into the mounting hole, but the problem is the spring-fingers don't grip well enough. Which means all of this may be for naught.

Nonetheless, I'm tempted to drop $14 (+tax/shipping) just to find out.
