I think its just the limiteds that have it. I dont mind the center consoles in the 4runners like yours but I wanted to try something different. If I get tired of the ammo can, I will most likely try to get my hands on a non-heater center console to replace it with.

Haha I will keep that in mind if I ever end up working for the cartels.

To rockingthe2, I will try to get some pics this week for you. Like Blue Steel said, its pretty simple and if you are thinking about doing it, I say go for it. Totally worth it in my eyes.

mlrunner95 - That is pretty cool, think I might have to do that as well, it would match my already army green 4runner nicely.

 

I started working on mine today but I only have the small cans or a 30mm which is pretty big, it fits in between the seats but takes some muscle to get it in. So ill finish once i can find a 40mm like yours. I did get the heater and everything else out and hoses re-routed, hole is still in the floor for the moment.

 

You guys do know that the SR5 Pickups had a double lid center console, right?
Instead of rear heat under the center console, it's all storage.
So instead of using an ugly-as-sin ammo can, how about making it look factory?
As for running a bypass, why not just use the plumbing from the pickups? They didn't have rear heat. Just one hose from the engine coolant to the switching valve and then to the heater core in the dash, then back out into the coolant system.
Spend a little time in the junkyard and you'll be surprised at what you can cross-over between the 4Runner and Pickup.

 

For the record, I prefer the look of the ammo can over the factory center console. But your right, the two tier center console would work just fine.
