removed K&N, thoughts on back to stock

recently I went back to stock on the 3vze air intake, from a K&N with ISR mod tube.
I did this mainly because of the really loud noise I was getting w/o the resonator, and I had some light lurching. Since going back stock, the noise went away completely (100% gone) and the lurching stopped too, which is great. Unfortunately I lost a lot of torque as well, it feels like there's a wet blanket on the engine. (this is with full stock air intake including baffled air trapping tube leading to throttle body).

I am wondering if anyone has kept their resonator and stock filter, and run a straight tube from the Ytube after the resonator, straight to the TB. I am hoping to regain some of the responsiveness I had with the K&N and ISR mod, but still keep the noise down and the resonator on.

if anyone has pics of their setup that would be great. thanks a lot

Yeah, I couldn't stand the noise and power of my engine, so I pulled it out and put a 3.4 in it, instead!

Seriously, though, you're probably best to replace your stock filter with one of the dry, high flow filters like a True Flow.

I hear you on the swap RobD! it'll happen someday, just not quite yet. In the meantime I'm plugging away on the 3vze, still enjoying it but frustrating at times. Thanks for the tip re: Trueflow. I checked their website but it seems that they only make it for the 22RE. Are there any filters that have a better flow in the stock box? I'd like to hear about them. Also if there is anyone who kept the stock resonator and made a pipe just going from the Ytube to the Tbody

I just stuck on a K&N on my 22RE. It originally came with the truck, but it used the air box of an '89 for a while. This didn't line up with the opening by the headlight on the 1990 body, so the intake tube just stuck up like a mini snorkel in a hot part of the engine bay. Needless to say, it wasn't exactly a cold air intake, but there was no way in hell water was going to get in there.

I started commuting to school and so I stuck the K&N back on to see if I could milk the mileage for all its got. I haven't calculated my mileage yet, but it seems the torque starts at about 2500rpm, whereas with the airbox, it started at about 2700rpm. This makes a bit of a difference as my truck is properly geared.
