Red oil light turns on when accelerating.

When I accelerate in my truck the red oil light thingy turns on for a second and goes away until I step on the accelerator pedal again. I should also mention I can only see it when in low light, like its hardly on? If that makes a difference. The truck doesn't leak or burn any oil either, haven't touched the oil since I bought it a month ago. (Note: I didn't know of this when I purchased it, I test drove during day and couldn't see the light).

Also, I feel as if the truck has a lack of power, unless these trucks just are generally underpowered and that's how its supposed to feel I don't know, probably connected to the problem above.

Any thoughts?

Its a '89 Toyota Pickup

you might have an oil pressure issue. The light coming on as you suggested is a sign of early bearing or oil pump failure. i believe the light comes on at around 7-10 psi which is very low. if so this is a major problem with the motor, i would shut it down and investigate before the engine becomes caked in metal shavings. oil pressure gauges are mandatory in older vehicles imo.

Red face

If the light is very dim not as bright as when you turn on the key prior to starting.

I would say you have something grounding back through the circuit lighting the light

Some place you might have a loose ground moving when you step on the throttle.

For peace of mind it would not hurt to check with a pressure gauge.

Depends just what you are comparing it to as for being under powered.

Check the connection at the oil pressure switch

As cheap as they are...order a new pressure sensor....make sure to get the right one....one type for idiot light...another type for actual gauge.

I kinda like to know for sure what my oil pressure is doing....so...get on that...takes 5 minutes to replace.
