Receiver or no receiver??
I recently picked up a receiver for my pickup, this thing is frickin heavy and looks to be a pain to install, the reason behind it is when I go wheeling or whatever one day I would like to have something to latch onto for recovery. I realize it will be the first to scrape if wheeling but will it be just silly to have if I'm not towing?? I looked at newer receivers and they seem to be all the same square and bulky, I was hoping a new hitch would be more low pro but no dice.
Any opinions? I just got a new bumper so getting an aftermarket really isn't financially worth the switch to a warn or wabbits style so I figured until I go to the next step if ever, I would put it on but im over thinking this I do believe.

I dont have a receiver on either of my rigs, but it would be nice. Especially after we got rearended in my uncles j**p with one of the military Loop style (whatever they are). the kid hit us in his corolla and it smashed his hood, and grill, with no damage to the j**p
, he asked if we could just call it good, we figured he didnt have insurance. so we both drove away happy!

If you are worried about clearance make or have made a custom receiver .It depends on just what type of bumper your running .
One can fabricate just about anything along these lines.
All recovery operations are so very different . It really depends just how one is stuck. Each recovery has to be looked at by itself .
Sometimes a receiver hitch is much to high to really be a good point to attach. How one is pulling also needs to be taken into consideration just a little tug with another vehicle or some serious rigging and winching.
Sometimes slings around the rear axle are the best attaching point.
The idea being to get out with out doing any more damage .:jessica:

anyway thanks guys im gonna paint it up and go with it for now, like I said if I ever decided to get silly I will do aftermarket with the receiver built in but right now I think this will fly

Well my preferance is to build a bumper with tube or C-channel mounts that slides directly into the frame and pull on that (roll pan cutting required). Otherwise, you should be just fine hooking to the rear bumper directly under where it bolts to the mount.
