Rear spring from 79-85?

Found a pair of springs (4" superlift) from a 79-85 Toyota for sale, would they fit my 88 4runner? Or would I be better off with 63" Chevy's in the rear?

They will fit, but they will be very stiff. I'm not a fan of the Chevies, but they would be way better than the Superlifts.

I have a pair of them sitting in my garage. I also have a stock pair of '88 truck springs, as well as a stock pair of '99 Taco springs. Both Toyota springs flex a lot when you stand on them, and the Superlifts barely bend when you jump on them.

Other alternatives are F-150 or Ranger srprings. Or S10 springs. Or the rage before Chevies became so popular: 2WD Mazda springs. All of these options involve welding new hangers though, so if you don't have that ability go with the Superlifts.

I plan on doing a mild build up and possibly go all out in a few years. If I put in the Chevy's with new hangers can I put in new springs later or do I have to remove the hangers and weld new ones in?

You can leave the stock hangers in place when you add Chevies, they shouldn't interfere, but after going to 63" Chevies why would you want to go back to stock-length springs again? There really aren't any good stock-length lift springs that I've seen.

I was just under the assumption that I put in aftermarket springs like Marlin or All pro, they use the stock hanger and stock location. I guess they don't?

Nope, all of those springs are longer than stock, but shorter than Chevies.
