quick air box mod

Im not sure if this is already posted, but i was looking at my airbox today and it was different than my 85 22re. Anyways there was this shield i took off, that covered the hose and wrapped around infront of the airbox, and behind the coolant resi. so i just took out the two bolts took it off and noticed a nice increase in mid power. I know and realized this will add more of a risk to getting ลลลล in there, but i dont really care, im gonna get a hose clamp and clamp some screen to the hose, which i left unmolested, just to me sure.

OH yeah it was on an 89 runner.

Sounds like maybe the guy that had it before did that k&n heatshield crap or whatever. Was it just a heat shield?

With it off, there's more air getting in from the engine bay. It might be hotter air, but more air none the less.

I think there is a tech writeup on that, but I could be wrong. I almost did it yesterday, but I wasn't sure if it would really help. So, you could definately notice a difference?

Nah it was all stock, just a shield in front of the headlight, i was looking for a wee increase and found it in the mid, i can cruise up to 50 easier in 3rd gear so i feel it helped quite a bit. im gonna dick around with it more today, maybe start off the snorkel or something.
