Remove the access panel in the passenger side wheel well. This will let you get one of the bolts out. The other can be gotten by going in from the front of the truck, I used like 10 3-6" extensions so that there was enough slack that I could route it in and got a helper to guide onto the bolt.

its a pain in the @$$ to replace but if you hold your mouth right, you can do it. I had to use a 3/8 6'' ext and 3 3'' ext and a universal in the middle to wiggle around through all the mess. dont know about rebuilding one, depends on whats wrong with.

Do not buy a rebuilt starter, no, no, no, no and no.
These starters are bulletproof, except for the contacts. Go to 4Crawler.com and check out his tutorial on replacing the contacts. For less than $20 and very little time you can have yours back up and running.
As for a spare, pick a used, OEM starter up at a boneyard, do the same to it, if you want a spare.
As for getting it out, as the others said, one from the side, the other from the front with a bunch of extensions and a wobble bar. The wobble bar will give you just enough play without flopping all the way over like a universal.

Everybody always says they have to use many extensions, what gives?
I don't even know if i use extensions when i pull mine, since i don't know what happened to my extensions.
Let me tell ya though... i can get a starter in and out in probably 10 minutes or less.
that was with the 3.0L and the 3.4L..
Maybe its just cause its sas'd so theres more room to get in there, idk...

i pulled my starter ou the front....use the extensions to get the bolts and take the wires off (after you disconnect the battery positive terminal).
Once the starter is free turn in over 180 degrees so the gear is facing you. Then rotate it 180 degrees so its upside down then wiggle it out the front. Took me 2 hours to get off the first time then 10 min to get it back in.

Yeah that hardest part of instalation was getting the inside nut back in. It pulled the stud out with it so I had to fish around blind for the hole.... lol for the hole

The starter fits out the access pannel really easily after you disconnect the wires. a stubby wrench is all you need for the rear bolt and for the fron a socket, 2 12'x3/8" extensions and a ratchet... Like has already been said, it only takes about 10min to get it out. It takes longer to set everything up!

Thanks fellas, all the info was helpful, I fixed starter for $24.00. It took me an hour to get it out and 20minutes to put it back in. Sure is harder than field stripping a rifle.. lol, Anybody know where I can find some good Lift Kits,push bars,and lights?

As for lift kits, look into Ball Joint Spacers. Old Man Emu (ARB's suspension arm) has good prices on rear springs, shocks, etc. Also from ARB, IPF lighting are decent prices. PIAA are high end lights. I'm not up on push bars, but if you search you should be able to find something.
