Hello everyone, I recently bought a 1993 Toyota pickup 4x4,SR5, with a 3VZ-E engine. Anyways the fuel tank had to be replaced, and I wasn't the one who removed the old one, so I'm not sure if I am missing any of the hardware to put it back. So I've included a picture from the service manual that has all the parts listed, I just need to know if I need any additional hardware. Also if anyone actually has a picture of one mounted that would be super helpful. Thanks!





Fuel tank parts.

 

6 bolts hold it to the frame assembly. The circled parts you have are just for the skid guard. You will need the bracket you have circled in red to install the skid guard. I have left the skid guards off of my trucks just help keep from getting dirt in them. It does expose your drain bolt so depending on where you live, it could be a way for some one to drain your fuel.

I think the part circled in green is for 2 wheel drive.

 

Youre lucky if you got those bolts out without breaking any. The aftermarket tanks do not have drain plugs. I had to replace mine cause when i replaced the fuel pump bracket, all of the bolts holding it on broke off on the tank. and it was full of rust.

Thanks for the quick replies, so basically the tank just bolts to the frame with just bolts and no extra hardwer, so does it go above the frame or below the frame? Once again thanks, getting this truck on the road has been a bit of a nightmare.

 

It bolts to the bottom of the frame. The bracket will go to the rear of the frame in between the tank and skid pan.

kcaudill is right about getting all of the bolts out without breaking. I usually wind up chieseling off the square nut that is mounted to the brackets. From my experience that is not rust in the tank but is a build up of chemicals in the tank. I clean my tanks out with vinegar and there is no pitting. You are best to replace a tank when they get full of crud.

 

Well the tank had to be replaced because students were doing the repair at the high school, and when told to empty the tank, for some reason he decided to punch a hole in it with a chisel and empty it that way.... The bolts for the tank were so badly rusted they had to be cut off, so I guess my final question would be, what kind of bolts are used to bolt it to the frame? I know the bracket uses M8 course thread, not sure what type/length is for the tank to the frame.

 

I must be getting old I don`t remember seeing a fuel tank mounted to anything but cross members made just to support the tank.

Maybe my trucks and 4Runners are different .I find strange things all the time nothing shocks me anymore.

So these fuel tanks mount parallel with the rear axle??

 

I dont know how to measure the bolts and get the correct size. If I am correct, it is the same bolts as the bracket bolts.

The tanks run parallel with the frame. The tank mounts are attached to the frame itself. You are correct, it is actually the crossmembers it attaches to.
