Pulling when applying brakes

I just recently purchase this '94 SR5 V6 4wd 4Runner and I have noticed that it pulls to the left when applying the brakes. I have recent service records that indicate the front brakes have been serviced along with replacing some of the steering linkage. The truck does have 274K miles, but has a long documented service history.

Just would like to know where to look in order toe eliminate the pulling.

Thanks

If it pulls to the left, the right side probably has trouble. First, you could try bleeding the brakes. You might want to change the brake hoses, then the calipers if it continues. If you can do the work yourself, it should not be very expensive.

What Jeff said is good. Although to check if you have hose swelling issues, the best way I've found is have someone mash the brake pedal really hard, and look for a couple things, the line moving (may or may not be swelling) and 2nd, is to feel the line. I had swelling brakelines on my 82' and when I would have someone hit the brakes my brake lines would move a little bit, and when the helper inside kept the brake pedal mashed, I could run my fingers up and down the hose , and feel the swelling.

Ya'll er sick bastards too if you found that last sentence funny...

The next thing you could do is make sure your resevoir is full, you could always toss a bottle of brakefluid upside down on it. Support the rig with jackstands, put a hose on the caliper bleeder screw, loosen it, and force the pistons into the calipers, you can do this by just pushing on the pads, if its uneven or stiff, or wont move at all then you have an issue.

Other issues, could be old brake fluid, Dot 3 brakefluid takes on water the second it's exposed to air. This litterally contaminates your brakefluid, thats why you should change regularly, if not you get corrosion, and gunk gets stuck in your calipers, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, etc...

If things check out ok, I would simply drain all the old fluid, flush with new fluid, and bleed it properly, go from there.

I would take a look at the passenger side 1st though, that side obviously isn't working like it should.

Mine had a seized driver's side front caliper and pulled to the right.

I replaced it and now it pulls to the left :pat:
