PS(power steering) question?
I took off the ps pump and all the fluid drained out. I installed the same ps pump on the engine without the belt and fluid and drove it like that for about a month. I finally got sick of driving without power steering so I decided to put the belt back on and refill the fluid. Now the damn ps don't work. I did the "lock to lock" thing for about an hr but ps still don't work. Some other guy told me that that my gearbox was shot?? I dunno it was working before so i'm guessing that all the components are still good.
Oh if your wondering why I took off the ps pump is because i changed the engine.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't mean to insult you or anything, but are the hoses hooked up backwards?
It could be your gearbox, as anything with fluid should be run with fluid. Steering gearboxes tend to be one of the more reliable components to run without fluid, but, still...
I'd verify the pump is working before going after the gearbox. If you have a gauge, you can hook it up in line to determine if the pump is making pressure. Good luck and post back when you've figured it out.

Sounds like the pump is possibly cavating with air, Had 2 pumps do this really bad.
If you run it low too long there can be damaging.
Suggestion since there may be alot of air in the lines.
Jack front wheels off ground, It makes the pump less burdend and can flush air out faster.
May want to pull a line from the gearbox blead the pump a little.
