Problems with 93 3vze
Hey, so today I was doing a little mudding, and I was going along trying to get out of this hole that I was bottomed out in and was reving pretty high. Next thing I know is I let off the gas and the truck stalls. The tailpipe wasnt underwater or anything. So I go to start it back up and its hesitant. Finnaly starts and is idleing really rough, like a choppy idle. There is black smoke when it idles and a little blue when you start to give it gas. When I drive and hit the brakes it trys to stall, and has stalled a few times going home. Checked for water in the distributor but it was dry. Let it sit for a couple hours and still the same thing. Some muddy water did get splashed into the engine bay, but Im almost positive none down the intake. What do you guys think it may be?
PS Ive tried searching, but nobody had the same problems exactly.

I dont know how, nor do I have the tools to do a compression test, should I take it to an auto shop and ask them to do it? or could a local parts store do it?

Blue, UH OH.. that means somethings getting into your combustion cycle. that shouldnt be.. like a lot of oil blowby.. or a leakyheadgasket.
Id take it into a shop, you might have started to seriously mess up your engine.. if you cant do the checks.. have it looked at quick to make sure your not doing further damage.

Not what I wanted to hear. Its only a tiny bit of bluish smoke when you tap the gas, really its black when its just idling. I do hope its not very expensive to fix. I always say Im never gona hit mud again, but then I do, its just so tempting.

Yea it sounds more like oil, I just noticed you had said it reved high for a while.. and we all know how the 3.0's have some cooling issues. Just something to think about. And its all of a sudden acting up, you know.. thats odd; like one moment everythings fine and then you "blew" something.. overheated. Without looking or hearing it, im talking out of my you know what. Check your oil, you buring any?
Take it to a shop.

Water in the EGR valve. I've always just let it "suck" itself dry by letting the engine run 'till it's real warm. Sometimes it takes a while. Leave it alone and come back later if you have too. It'll probably be dry by the next time you start it is my experience.
Kind of a pain to take the thing off and dry/clean it.
Anyway, I bet that's it.

usually, but it can be blown without emitting smoke from the exhaust. check to see if there is a lot of pressure when you take the radiator cap off. i had a blown headgasket for a LONG time and it never smoked just used up water a lot.

Relax....what Mudhippy said or you just flooded it. Pull your plugs and see if they're fouled.

Mechanic called today, said it was ready to pick up. Needed a new MAF, he thinks the mud had something to do with it. Oh well, gota pay to play. Wish I had a little more mechanical skill to fix things myself. Thanks for all yalls help.

Good thing you know a decent mechanic. I wasn't even close to guessing that one. The MAF is sealed up pretty tight except for where the air comes in through the filter there. Yep, I bet you sucked some water through the air filter then. Not enough to hurt your engine, just fry that unit.
Anywho, have fun playin', you paid. Sorry I couldn't have thought of that ahead of time.

I was wondering about the black smoke at idle and rough idle. Classic symptoms of a too rich mixture. The MAF adjusts the mixture I think. Changes with how wide its open I think. Sounds like a mechanic you should keep.
