Well that kinda blows. But that's always my luck I end up with the wierd one of a kind stuff. I am so glad we have mudhippy on this forum. Off subject: My stock injectors have 124,000 which isn't a lot on Toyota standards but I have been getting a lot of pre-det and the distributor is all the way C-clockwise or as retarded as possible whereas my other 3VZE had the timing advanced quite a bit. The reason I was looking into better injectors was to increase fuel and reduce the pre-detonation. Opinions???

Are the yellow 3vze injectors plastic? Or have a plastic outer? Just curious as to why they are yellow and not the silver like most other FT injectors?

it's OK. just keep in mind that there is air, fuel, compression, and spark involved in the combustion event. and all of them have to happen at the right time and in adequate amounts. the only one you can't really get a reading on is the fuel. and a lean condition will kill an engine.

you might be getting a carbon knock. have you considered a quart of isoproplyl alcohol (50%) through the vacuum ports in the throttle body? get it warmed up, have somebody else drive and stick a vacuum hose (briefly) into the container. the engine will bog down under load while its ingesting the mixture. it will steam clean the combustion chambers. ever done a head gasket job? the cylinder that is getting the coolant is usually spotless. it's cheap and worth a shot.

i have had great luck with that on the 3VZE and the nissan D21 4 cylinder engines.

and i have to say, 124K is a great number on an 88. sure wish i could find one like that. but in Denver, they get driven to death.

the tan/yellow injectors are the newer Bosch type 3. it's a later design that is less prone to fouling from deposits. he plastic body makes them less prone to heat soak ad they run quieter than the earlier metal bodied injectors. and he plastic is a sleeve. the fuel goes through a stainless steel tube down the middle.

I ordered my injectors last night, what all is involved in installing them? Remove all the vacuume lines etc from the plenum and remove it? What do you do with the throttle body?
