Power window relay

The power window in my 1988 4Runner dlx does not work with the key, only with the button in the front. My dad and I checked out the various components in the tailgate and they all seem to work and have voltage and stuff. The only thing we can figure is that there's something wrong with the power window relay - any idea where that thing is?

Is this for the gate? If the key part does not work then it's probably the switch at the lock on the gate. Common item to go bad.

Toyota part #84830-89102(Tail Gate switch assy) $40.85

It's not the switch. I put the voltmeter to all 3 contacts. They respond to a turn of the key in both directions, respectively. The only other thing I figure is the power window relay, which is what the Haynes manual calls it.

the relay is located behind the driver seat behind the side panel.

Ok... check the other switches too. There are about 4 in total for the rear gate.

I sell many of them to shops all day long as they don't know what their replacing, just random guessing

Okay, thanks for the info. I'll take another whack at it and see if I can make it work...
