Power Question

Hi all,
I have a 1987 pickup with the 22R motor and a 5-speed. It has an OME lift with BJ spacers in the front, 4.56 gears, 265/75-16 Treadwright Guard Dogs, stock Taco alloys, and a camper shell. My truck cannot hold even close to the speed limit up any kind of hill on the freeway. I'm down to about 45 or so climbing the grapevine on I-5. I have to use third gear every now and again just to hold 45-50. I've never been in any other old Toyotas so I have no idea if this is normal or not. Anyone care to enlighten me about this?

Mines a dog on power and I have to downshift on long hills too. But I sure do love the truck! Im sure you can get more power if your willing to spend the money. I am just going to live with mine the way it is for now. i getting a running start on those hills!

Cool, thanks. I have no baseline so its hard to tell if the truck is abnormally slow or just 22R slow.

It's 2G 4Runner 3G truck slow heh. We're all in the same boat, except for those guys who did an engine swap.

You can help it a bit if you add a header and exhaust, and 4.88 gears would also be a big help.
