Quote: WHat did you tune to factory OEM specs engine wise to bump the mileage? I can barely squeeze 24-25 mpg out of the same truck.
I use a SnapOn timing light to set timing to 5 degrees and rpm at 800 with the throttle bore taped up because of the AAV acting up.Im running MSD spark plug wires, stock ignition truck,NGK iridium plugs and a new oem oxygen sensor form Amazon.com.I cannot believe the mileage but will update on the next fillup.

You know that your gas mileage will improve with a top from Killer Toy Tops. Plus when you lower your back window the fumes wont come in the cab and fumigate you. Just an F.Y.I from your friends at KTT.

wow, congratz........

and...Oh holy smack-me-in-the-mug! .... I will either do better in town or swap eventually.... I must drive ALL of this threads posting members vehicles for a day, verify the mileage and then let you all know! OK?????????? hahahahaa. I just don't know what look into on mine anymore....
Think chef said it best. Both my yotas at one point were bone stockers with overboard maintenance, synthetic oil, 38psi in the tires, proper gearing for tires, and the tailgate down. MY 89 3.0 standard cab, short bed, NEVER, repeat NEVER got more the 18MPG.
But most of the time it was (16MPG)

My 01 5vz is an extended cab, manual trans, and when I first got it it was all stock and only got MAX 19MPG. But around 17-18 Most of the time.

Now unless your not even going the speed limit everywhere, (which in my opinion doesnt count as MPG results) , or just plain dont accelerate AT-ALL. Then I dont see 20 making any sense in a 3rd gen. Their heavy BTW.

But not calling anybody liars here. Just getting a little cerious why some of you guys are claiming better mpg then the government and toyota claims these trucks get.
And especially since I get excatly what this web site says I should.

Im surprised i get 19 mpg city-ish. But i shift before 2500 rpm, i keep 36 psi, and i like to think my efan and air intake helped a wee bit. On the highway i also keep it at 2500 rpms so like 55(ish) and i have no weight in the back of the truck.

I personally think this thread had led me to expect more than I'll EVER get. THAT SAID, ... I DID get 23.8mpg's on that trip to AZ(only in part... not on the whole...But a good stretch of 120 miles, up the cahon pass, and long straight to Barstow from L.A. .... I think maybe a lil wind from behind helped me out to another 1.5mpg's... who knows.. I just know that's NOT average for me... Mostly around 21hwy if I'm lucky).... But I still seem to suffer in traffic of L.A.'s sea of RED. WHATEVER, hahaha... I mean, this thing is a bit of a tank with a lower technology 4 banger and EFI or not.... it NEVER SAID more than 17-21 on the window stickers(?).... And THEY ALWAYS exaggerate, from my experience.

I honestly feel GREAT for those who get 20-24mpg's/City-Hwy all day long, even stomping on it.... But I've got a VERY clean running(aside from my couple gremlins), mostly new parts/doesn't burn an OUNCE of oil, nor consume it, ... 90+ MPH depending on tires..... 22RE, ..... and ONLYYYYYYY when I'm cruising, mostly in 4th Gear, around 36 miles to Long Beach and Back to my location, .... BABYING IT TO THE MAX.... Hardly any stop lights... ONLY then can I get 17MPG, City.

If I find the gremlin that's causing my mild miss at idle and 'idling down to 500rpm at fully warm restarts for a half minute or so'... and it improves things any? I'll be SURE to post that up. But, honestly, ... trying to match some of what I've read is fruitless, and I honestly feel, a waste of my time..............

This last tank?.... 13.8mpg's, crappy L.A. Traffic, living on quite a hill and all considered........, but hardly using the AC and very light on the pedal....... I just don't know that I SHOULD expect very much more than that. considering the driving conditions/geographical environment where I live..... Meh. hehe.

None of the results matter if they don't post what engine they have either.

WELL............. SUPER GRANNY this time, lol.... filled up at 48 Miles.... 3.2 Gallons.... YEP, ..15.000000000 mpg! hehe. ... Like I said, granny style.. BUT, never over 45 mph and lots of stop and go... Still, seems sucky, but whatever, lol.....>>>

87 22RE/32 mt's with 30# in em/ 4.30 gears/Locked Rear/2.5" lift or so/All dino but proper fluids/87 octane 76 Gas .......Gonna air up to 38-40psi and try again on the same route on the 32's(have to travel it anyway, so why not, right? Compressor is prepping as I type, haha)....... Just all for fun at this point... Soon enough, most of my driving will be Highway... and LOTS of distance in a couple instances... So for now, I'm not concerned as I get around 21-23 on average on the HWY....

DZLdust..... That's not bad 15-22 or so? Sounds like me, ...hmmmmm. And that's on stock tires? (22R, I saw that, too)... Sounds like a window sticker to me
