Post your GAS MILEAGE!!
#121
Hey Guys,
An mpg update,...I have'nt been able to do much with the truck, for the last 2 weeks.
I also can't seem to keep every one else, from using it,.. it is the shop truck after all.
The truck has been returning, 22-24.5 mpg's, almost all city, for the last 2 tanks of fuel. I cant seem to break 25, but I only drive it about half of the miles.
So My nephew AJ (breaker of stuff ), has used the truck alot in the last few days, and brought it back on below E this morning, so I decided to, hook up the egr,.. run it out of gas,.. then add exactly, 1 gal., and see what I could get it to do mpg wise. Ya I know....I'm bored.
Anyway, I put 2 gas cans and the jump pak, in the truck, and went off to run out of gas, it did'nt take long, till it started to sputter, and run out. On level road.
I then added exactly 1 gallon of gas, and drove off, to run out again!
Well,.. Your not gonna believe this,..but I just drove 37.2 miles on less then 1 gal. of gas, and the truck is still running!,.. I accellerated slowly, avoided late braking, and timed red lights so I would'nt have to stop as much. Most driving was at 52-55 miles per hour, with the motor running at 2000-2100 rpm's, starting and ending point, were the same place, so wind is not a factor.
I'm running non LT, 265/75/16's @45 lbs pressure.
I looked up the 97', epa ratings for a Camaro, equipped with 3800, 5 sp man, and it's hwy rating is 30 mpg!
I'm going to see if I can squeeze, another 3 miles out of it, we'll see. If You see Me on the side of the road, just Wave.
Thanks, Kiwi
edit; I ended up with 41.5 mpg, before it died.

93 pickup 22re/5spd
4.88's
33" MT claws
lock-rights front and rear
2.5" magnaflow exhaust
19mpg commuting on rural roads to work
Back when it was on 31's with 4.10's I drove from NJ to NV and got between 18 being the worst and 22 being the best. The 22 was actually through the rockies where I was in 3rd and 4th gear most of the time. I guess 22r's are more fuel efficient revving higher in 50mph then flat out 80mph in 5th.

'85 SR5 Shortbed Pickup
ALL stock.
Around 19-22 mpg daily driving (For me thats city and highway mixed) but my timing is ed and I haven't had time to fix it, so I'm pretty sure I could get better. I've got the original certificate from the Toyota dealership sitting right next to me (Truck was my dads first vehicle, now it's my first
) and it says 22mpg city and 25mpg highway and oh wow...$1.25 a gallon for gas haha. We'll see about that one but for the most part my mileage hasn't changed since the truck was brand new.
Long live the 22RE

'91 4Runner, 3VZE, Auto, BFG All-Terrain Trail TA's, 31X10.5.....mix between around town and hwy driving, I get between 14 & 15MPG.
I guess it's normal for this truck, but it's pretty poor. I guess when you consider that the 3Slow in a Runner is totally underpowered it makes sense.
I have an old '87 Cherokee that has the 4.0L straight 6 in it and it gets 18, light truck though.

On a freshly rebuilt 22RE I managed 22mpg out of my first tank. This was being very easy on the go pedal and conserving whenever possible. 75% of the miles were highway 58-65mph. 5 Speed Manual. 86 4Runner.
Everything completely stock. 235/75/15 Michelin street tires.
