plug wires
can my plug wires be bad from overheating? i noticed all the passenger side wires were touching the egr tube could that have done anything internally without harming the outside they look fine but truck is running terribly and i can smell unburnt fuel in the exhaust. i'd like to know before i drop money on a new set cause these arent too old. how can you accurately test a plug wire?

do they absolutely have to be OEM to run right? i had a z71 that i was told i had to run Acdelco or it woulnt run right so i spent 100 bucks on a set and they were no different from a set at auto zone i had.

We can't say for sure that wires are your problem, but experience here tells us OEM Denso is the better way to go.
Have you check in the dark to see if you're getting arcing at all? What do your plugs look like? How long have you had the problem? Did you do something immediately prior to the issue starting?

the plugs had soot on them i changed them i was getting a code 71 egr temp sensor i pulled egr valve mod and tubes checked for clogs but it all was good i also put new crush washers on csi fuel line. After i put egr componets and csi fuel line back i can smell raw gas in the exhaust i also replaced the o2 sensor with no effect. not sure how i caused a change by pulling csi fuel line and egr componets but i did some how. almost like it went from being little lean to rich

Is the CSI staying open & dumping extra fuel into the intake? That or a faulty VAFM are the only other things I can think of that would suggest what you're experiencing...

i pulled it out the plenum an put it in a jar turned key on an nothing happened but engine may been warm but i cant remember but even if it was warm and it was leakin wouldnt it have still leaked warm? and i dont think its the vafm cause it was an instant change. it ran decent then i pulled egr an fuel line put it all right back crunk it up and bam ran completely different.
