Please help me with my tranny!

Hey guys,I recently just ran into a problem with my G52 5 speed transmission. Its a 1986 toyota pickup that i did an SAS on and also did the rear chevy spring swap on. I finally got everything done on the truck and took it to pass emissions and on the way there realized something wasnt right with my tranny. In 3rd 4th and 5th gears i get this horrible chattering sound that comes with a violent vibration of the cab. The problem is not speed realated because i can take 2nd Gear all the way up to 45mph and nothing, but as soon as i throw it into 3rd gear its starts doing it But the vibration becomes less violent in the higher rpms of 3rd. It does it during acceleration and when i let off the gas but if i push the clutch in it stops it doesnt do it all the time but id say probably 85% of the time it will happen...PLZ HELP ME any input will be apreciated!

THANKS, NIKO

Sounds like internal maybe? U-joints are tight and greased? Is there a carrier bearing that could be the culprit?

Check the throw-out bearing, when the clutch is engaged it takes off the pressure and doesn't have any strain, and when your rpms are up there is less strain on your transmission. Does it happen as soon as you start the truck, is it possible the inspection pan has been hit or the filter clogged? Also, smell your transmission fluid to see if it smells burnt, and rub it between your fingers to see if it feels gritty. I know the filler bolt is on the tranny too, it sucks.

alright guys it does NOT happen as soon as i start the truck it starts in 3rd gear to 5th and no hits to the inspection pan and i dont think it has a filter. it has gear oil in it but it is gritty with lots of sparkles but no big chunks looks like metallic paint or something.

I also checked the throw-out bearing already it good to go, as for u joints they are new and fully greased up. and no carrier bearing.
thanks for the replys

could i eliminate drive shaft vibrations because when moving with vibrations i push the clutch in and it stops and the driveshaft is still spinning at the same speed with no vibrations? and aren't driveshaft vibrations speed sensitive?

Red face

Just bad luck that it happened now time for a rebuild or used trans:jessica:

It is pretty much toast the fact you have kept driving it means a rebuild is going to be questionable as far as cost. Needing to many parts as well as bearings.

You really don`t know till you pull it apart.:jessica:

find a new transmission, it should be opaque goldish when fresh to a dark greenish when old, and with no sparkles. possible input bearing failure and there is no way to tell how bad it affected the gears themselves, especially with all that metal floating in the oil.
