Please Explain (not for me..for my "mechanic")

ok..so our mechanic seems to have it in his head that my STOCK '86 toyota 4x4 pickup has limited slip differentials front and rear..why i dont know..so could somebody please explain the difference between open diff's, LSD's, and full lockers.thanks..and dont tell me to search..because i did..and couldnt find a good enough definition for him..thanks

I'd be willing to say no way for the front, possible but very unlikely for the rear...

I'll let someone else explain the different locker types

Run dont walk away from this mechanic!!! Even if he doesnt know your truck never came with a front limited slip he should know how to check! Again get your truck outta this guys shop!! Have him take out the diffs and show you the limited slip! No, just get away from this mechanic!!

IF he wanted to be technical you have a locked center transfer case, akin to a locked center differential... but shroooming you most likely are not.

lift the back of the truck or front spin one tire if they spin opisite ways open dif, if they got the same way lsd or locker, i dont feel like explainign how to tell difference between those 2.

Sorry to say, but if he has that little knowledge you really need to find another mechanic. Guys like that are going to put duct tape and coat hanger wire in places you never dreamed of.
