Exterior Rearview Mirror Removal
Do you know how to remove the plastic covers over the base of the door rearview mirrors? Mine are not powered. I see a seam between the two halves. Just don't want to bust the plastic. The FSM doesn't explain this.

what year? 89-95 there is a trim piece on the inside you have to pop off to unbolt it, older, i don't recall, but i see an exposed screw on the front and a skinny cover that slides back to expose the rear screw on my 86.... hope this helps. if you are searching, they are called side view mirrors.

park it in the sun for a while. Just warming it up to about 80° or so will make it just flexible enough to safely pop loose.
Works the same for old rubber hoses, but I usually end up using a heat gun for that.
