pittman arm seized

i was trying to replace my iddler and pittman arm on my 93 runner, i got the iddler on no problem but when i tried to take the nut off that holds the pittman arm to the steering box it was seized really bad i used a breaker bar with a huge pipe and it just bent the breaker bar. I was thinking of using some flame on it but i am hesitant because of the steering box. Would carefully using a torch be a problem because it is a fair distance away from the steering box but i dunno if it would still destroy some seals and what not.

i'd try a little heat, then whack it with a hammer or something a couple of times to shock it. if that still doesn't work with your breaker bar, i'd get my hands on a 3/4" impact wrench and rattle that sucker off.

in theory, it's the arm itself that should be tight, the nut shouldn't be that hard to get off i think. sounds like you're going to have a fun time pulling that arm...

yeah thats what i was goin to do, regarless as to whether or not anyone here said not to lol, i tried all the brute strength i got. What i saw on the iddler arm was that as soon as i cracked the nut it was easy to get off which is what im suspecting here just that the nut is like 10 times bigger 1 1/4 inches. I live in a climate where salt is used on the roads for something like 6 months of the year so any exterior work is a nightmare because of just the above reason. I always love watching shows like "trucks" or "horsepower TV" where it takes them a full 30 secs to take off and replace a rear axle or install a new suspension kit.

Heating up the nut with a propane torch may help, also try melting some paraffin (candle) wax on the exposed threads when it is hot. The wax will melt and wick up the threads to help loosen the nut. But I wonder why you need to remove/replace the pitman arm. That part is a solid piece of cast steel and really not prone to wear, unless you had a rod end or nut get loose and wear out one of the ends. Usually the problem is the rod end wears out.

in both my pittman and iddler arm the joint that holds the arms to the tie rod ends were really worn and slack so my steering was all over the place and very rough so it needed to be replaced. I have it all done now and it handles like a racecar compared to what it was before
