so i have been researching for my engine build and wondered if any can help with something i dont quite grasp. the installation of the rings, everyone uses different lube but which is best also what type of ring produce the best result for service life and propper seating.any tips on the actual installation would also be a help.i want to have a good understanding of each process before beginning the job.the thrust washer also has me puzzled, what does it do and on a 22re is there only 1? thanks

There is no assembly lube for rings, use a nice break in oil or at least a good engine oil. Wash out the cyl walls with soapy water, dry and use a spray lubricant oil in the cyl walls. Install your rings, oil the rings and install them in the block.

As for ring name brand, good luck with that. However you cant go wrong with OEM as long as you are building a close to stock engine. Make sure you cut the ring clearance properly.

There are hundreds of videos on youtube showing the basics of ring and how to install them. A good shop manual will help with specs, but you will have to do the deed and get your hands dirty if you want to learn/understand this process. Do what the book says and pick up install hints off youtube and you will be fine.

Remember, clean then oil everything and dont cut corners.

A spinning crank wants to wander back and forth. what makes that worse is the clutch system pushes the crank forward. This isnt good as while the crank spins it will eat into the mains of the block due to the force. Thrust bearings do exactly what it sounds like they do, they handle the 'thrust' of the crank.
