High idle at cold start

92 V6 4X4 mamual trans goes to 1500-1700 rpm at start up and stays for 5-7 mins. before coming down to normal idle. Any idea what could be causing this?

Aye and welcome, sounds normal to me. And or coolant temp sensor?

Sounds pretty normal, mine does that too. It just runs high until my temp is warmed up.

This is a new problem. Never acted like this before. Now it jumps straight to 1500-1700 rpm when before it started at 1200 and slowly increased to about 1500. Aside from a coolant temp sensor, is there also an air temp sensor? First issue I've ever had with truck in the 10 years I've owned it so I'm pretty clueless

My cold idle was at 2.5K rpms "way too high", after warm up idle dropped too 600 rpm, the IAC was working the idle was just too high.
After doing a tremendous amount of research I came across this write up on 4x4wire, here is the link: http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showfl...=0&page=0&vc=1
I removed the IAC, and followed the write up for cleaning and adjustment, cleaned the IAC, adjusted it, and installed a new gasket, and bingo now my cold idle is now at about 1.5K right where I wanted it.
