Pictures of my rebuild

Jason -
Just give me a day and time and I should be in. This Saturday I might be going fishing but I can always switch it up for Sunday instead (just gotta tell the fishing buddy). I work Mon to Fri so you can get me on a weekday night or a weekend day or night.
It's really just a question of when is Jay351 available and do you have the near-beer for him?

You should stop by one day. I'm sure we'd have lots to chat about and at least have a beer or something. I need to do the front diff breather mod and then the engine drops in hopefully this weekend.

Not sure on the exhaust yet. I got a whole catalog from LCE when they sent my headers. They don't have much for the 3VZE though. I think I would like the sound of the Borla so I'm looking forward to hearing yours. For now I think I am going to hook it up to the stock cat and exhaust. Just to get it on the road. Then it might give me an idea what size I could go to when I upgrade. Kind of like a baseline? Don't know if this makes sense though. For sure it will be just a simple exhaust. Single tip routed just like stock but with a little larger pipe and mandrel bends.

Jason,
If you want a catback that sounds like stock only with a slightly deeper, mellower tone, with virtually no drone, the Borla catback is your choice hands down. The only issue is they don't make 'em anymore, BUT Mufflertech in Poco could fab you one up with 2" mandrel bent pipes (my Borla catback is 2" too) and you could just put a Borla Turbo Muffler on there. To the bestof my knowledge, the muffler in my catback is just a Borla Turbo Muffler anyways (the dimensions are virtually the same as thouse listed on their website). Mopac can order you a Borla Turbo Muffler. The only problem is if you want 2 1/4" Muffler tech can't do it because they don't have the dies to mandrel bend 2 1/4". But I would pick 2" mandrel bent over 2 1/4" pressure bent if you had to pick either anyday anyways. Then of course there is the Thorley system with the Jardine Muffler but you could just replace the muffler with a Borla for a better sound (the Jardine is supposed to be loud apparently).
I still don't see why the Pro-flow catback which I believe is 2 1/4" built for 22RE's wouldnt' work with a 3vze. If you look at the pictures on the website of this sytem, it looks EXACTLY like the pipes and parts in my Borla catback. The only potential issue could be the cat connection if the cats on 22RE's and 3vze's are different but that is an extremely easy fix at your local exahust shop - just chop off the flange and weld the proper one on and consider that that pipe is probably universal that you have to cut to length (the flange striaght pipe to the upturn - look at the picture to figure out what i'm talking about) so you have some pipe to play with there I would imagine. That will give you a 2 1/4" mandrel bent exhaust system that the 22RE crow already loves.

Jay - I don't think you're gonna be blown away at the Borla. In all honesty it'll probably be much much quieter than what you got or think it should sound like. It's not a mind blowing change from stock, but it's a nice change I'd say.
In all honesty I think 2" mandrel bent pipes with the headers and cams would flow quite well. Remember that most guys who say 2 1/4" are running pressure bent systems. Pressure bent systems lose about 1/4" roughly at the bends anyways which equates to 2" of flow roughly. When you consider 2" has less volume than 2 1/4" pipes you also have pipes that won't cool down which translates to pipes that stay hotter and move exhaust better in the lower RPM's but I honestly think that 2" mandrel bent pipes on this engine will still flow really well in the higher RPM's. Not 2 1/4" mandrel bent or 2 1/2" like some guys have gone, but enough to satisfy you. Also don't forget that what everyone in here is looking for on the 3vze isn't high RPM HP but low to mid range torque. We want an engine that pulls hard from 1000 RPM's to 4000 RPM's. Most could care less what happens after that as it's not fun revving past 4000 anyways. If I could have the same torque I have at 3400 RPm's at 2400 RPM's I would be one hell of a happy camper because on my truck at 3400 RPM's there is nothing stopping it.

Ya the 2 door 4Runner is mine. Just ordered my ARB lockers and offroad solutions 4 link for my sas so i guess my truck is the next to be down for awhile.... now if I could just sell the wife I could afford to actually finish my plans(just kidding hunny). I will have to stop by next time i see ya. we meet before when the tree came down on your place. Ya I got lucky with the 2 car garage and the 2 car pad parking>

It must be nice to have access to a shop and all the tools that go with it. Would make projects more along much more smoothly. Also I wanted to ask you...do you know anyone with the last name Klynstra? Just curious.

I hope to do lockers on my truck as well but other things have to come first. Once the motor is done I have a little crunch to the box on the passenger side that needs fixing...which also means new paint on the box as well. Of course a little bit of lift and some 33's would be nice as well. The sas is very cool but I'm not sure I'll go that far yet.

Well I am still trying to get this thing back together. Waiting on LCE to get a crossover fabbed up and sent out to me at the moment. Just the odds and ends left to go.
The reason I'm posting is because I have an extra part. I know it sounds bad. I just kept putting things together and figured the location of this part would become apparent. No such luck, it's the long thin part in this picture. http://picasaweb.google.com/Green93T...33184130854482
Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to have to flip through the whole FSM.
Thanks,
Jason

Good luck trying to take his headers. Those headers have built in theft protection - they are an absolute PITA to remove while in the engine bay. It falls under the category, if you can steal 'em, you can have 'em!
So 351 - when are you gonna get your LCE's?

I'm gonna wait until the GST gets down to 5% - I figure I'll save a whopping $8 by doing this at the border!
As long as they're high quality, time isn't as much of an issue for myself, within reason of course. Those headers aren't that expensive when you evaluate what other headers cost for other engines, and you consider the noted quality they have. The fact they used factory flanges and gaskets alone is indicative of higher quality components. I just wish they'd post some dyno results, as well as I'm looking forward to someone else posting pictures of a manual install on here.
