Performance Exhaust

So heres the deal, my cousin (96 3.4 Taco 4WD), just got dual exhaust put on his truck. It sounds great, but I have a 94 4Runner 3.0 and I cant find much of a solid foundation for exhaust products. I want duals, so I want to know if it can be done, whats the best way to do it (headers, cat, etc) and how much (vaguely) would i need to budget for this project? Thanks guys

Downey headers new crossover, muffler, highflow cat and to do duals is tricky cause the gas tank and spare tire. anything can be done its just $$$ and time. i would just do single downey headers, magnaflow high flow cat and flowmaster exhaust. cant go wrong. BTW the headers are a PITA on the 3.0 to install. Check out downeys site for cost same with like summit racing for the rest (cat and muffler)

hey,

i don't know how extensive you want to get with your truck,
but for beginners, i'd go with a 2.25" system with a magnaflow highflow cat, and flowmaster muffler.

And from my past experience, i'd find all the components you want, take them to the smallest muffler shop, tell them what you want, and have them install it. You'll probably get cheaper prices and more personal service.

I myself would do a crossover and go duals after the cat if that's what you really want. I'm not sure how a 3.0 would respond to dual exhaust, because of the fact that most aftermarket systems made for it are a 2.5 inch pipe, which to me would mean 1.25" dual pipes from the exhaust manifolds back. I think you could do two 2" pipes and get away with it, but why? It's not a 300ci engine that needs 4 inches worth of exhaust to push it's fury about.

Dual exhaust is tough on these trucks becuase they aren't full size so you don't have much room on the gas tank side and around the spare tire. BUT, if you did go with duals you would NOT need big pipes as it's only 3 cylinders per side and not a very big displacement engine so maybe 2" MAX per side.

My vote is to just keep it on one side and a single pipe.

Dual exhaust as in a crossover pipe and it comes out int tow tips-thats not dual exhaust.

Dual exhaust is running from each header a pipe, 2 cats and 2 mufflers. That is a true dual exhaust.

Most trucks now with duals run a crossover pipe after the cat and it splits..still not duals..

To do a fuul Downey exhaust system from header to tail pipe is roughly 900-1000, that i dont think includes shipping and defenantly doesnt include installation. Plus a=its all for the sound mostly because you dont gain much with a 3.slowwith any mods really. My advice is to take off the oil cap, pull the motor and put in a 3.4. oh then put your oil cap back on and problem solved. Go ahead and throw in a super charger while you at it..... oh im sorry, i was day dreamingg and i started to drool on my self
