I was thinking instead of doing a panhard drop I could leave the mount higher and just have a tie rod with Hyme joints on it to center my rear axle on my 91 4 runner. Any thoughts of why this would not work?

Panhards work best when they are parallel with the axle, that's why you drop them, not just because of length.

 

Yep. Heim joints won't compensate for the fact that under certain circumstances the axle will be pushed or pulled from the centerline of the frame with a panhard setup.

 

The best setup would include a drop bracket AND adjustable bar.

That way the angle would be kosher and you could adjust the length to perfectly center the axle.

 

When I get home from the mine I am installing my pan hard drop bracket from 4crawler.

Not having one in bent my sway bar links and at full droop my driveshaft is mere millimetres from the gas tank armour.

Might as well grab disconnects while your at it.

They've been around a while but are more expensive to implement than a panhard.
