Overheating Damage?

Does anyone know what kind of damage occurs to the cylinder head when the engine overheats.

What kind of damage to the block/pistons.

I just rebuilt my '86 22r and I think there's damage from overheating. Still runs O.K. but there's lots of noise coming from under the valve cover.

you could have blown a head gasket. i would do a pressure test on all the cylinders and make sure you have equal pressure on all cylinders.

Thank you, will do.

Besides that I tried selling an EFI set up from an '85 celica to maybe get better parts. It has almost everything except the fuel pump and fuel line. I took it straight off the car w/out depressurizing it so I hope it didn't screw something up like the pressure regulator. Does anyone have a suggestion of how much I should ask for it?

Noise from under the valve cover usually means valve lash is out. You should have set it during the rebuild, even if you did check it and set it now, thats my suggestion.

the head can warp if overheated, since you are saying your getting noise from under the valve cover i would try adjusting your valves, make sure to do it when its hot. the cast iron block is pretty durable and can handle it, but the aluminum head is where the problems usually happen, which will most likely blow a headgasket sooner or later, usually sooner.
