Has anyone used one of those oil relocation kits if so what is your opinion of it ?is it junk or is it worth the $53 ?

 

Which one/ones are you looking at? There are several different ones.

 

I am looking at the Perma-Cool one

 

i've heard they are nothing but a really big pain, they leak all the time, they dont seal properly, etc etc, cause i was looking at a oil filter relocation too.

 

if its for the oil filter, then its probably a good idea, if you can get it to work right with no leaks. i HATE the location of the oil filter on my 88!

 

I use one to feed my turbo.. It's not so much oil relocation as an additional in-line oil filter. Never had a problem with it.

 

Some do actually relocate the filter and, considering where it is on the 22RE, it's kinda convenient.....if you feel like being extravagent with money. Personally, I can't justify the cost on my budget for a litte extra ease.

Some do incorporate the regular spin-on and add extra oil capacity and filtration. To me, depending on cost, it's worth it. Frantz or Amsoil are good ones.

I have a Frantz on both of my 4rnr's...1st and 2nd gen's. Plus, I use WIX or M1 brand spin on filters. In my experience, it helps keep the oil cleaner longer, and I've never had any problems. It can be a little messy, but hey....it's an oil change.

 

I installed the perma-cool one on my 3.0. I lost that engine, when the cheese ball hose set up went bye-bye, even after having just checked it a few days before.

If you choose to do it, do like I did, when I dropped in my 3.4. I used the adapter plate, and the oil filter relocater plate, but I used full on hydraulic fittings and hoses to plumb it with. I've put nearly 10,000 miles on it since installation, and have had no problems with it (knocking wood!).

It certainly makes my oil changes a lot cleaner and easier!

 

I have a Summit relocation kit on my 94. It is much easier to change the oil filter. I agree that full on hydraulic hoses are the way to set up the system. I mounted my filter on the inside of the frame under the passenger seat area. I can see that the filter and hoses are somewhat exposed to off road hazards in that position, which is something to seriously consider. Room in the engine compartment for the filter is not really there.

 

I installed a Perma-Cool Universal Engine Oil Cooler part number 69195. The oil cooler is mounted to the front of the radiator and the remote oil filter is mounted to the fender well below the battery and above the frame. There is just enough room to use a PH-8A filter that holds almost a quart of oil. Changing the filter is easy without making a mess. I've had it for 4 years and it doesn't leak oil. I didn't go all out and put in braided lines but I did make the hose twice as thick. Buy rubber hose the next size up from the hose that comes in the kit. Cut the hose down the entire length and put the cut hose around the oil line hose and zip tie it. If anything rubs against the hose its never going to wear through two layers of hose. Unless it's a pully or a belt...

 

Check the rated spec if you do that.. This is going to see 80psi and 200+ degrees of heat - you'll need special hose.

 

I zip tied the larger hose around the oil hose any place there was contact or fricton with another surface that might wear it down. Lower left of first pic.
