oil pressure and mileage??

I have noticed that my oil pressure drops way low when I am sitting at a light at idle and when I accelerate and cruise at above 1800RPM my oil pressure is up near the middle of the guage. Is this normal to see this much movement in the guage?? One guy with a 95 pickup 22RE I talked to says his does that also.

Also my mileage is really poor. I have been checking my mileage by the tank and am getting about 14MPG factoring the 7% difference in tire size over stock tires. About 13.3MPG without the 7%.

I have an 87 4runner, 22RE with an EB 268 cam. I did the head gasket and timing chain while we were in there. Also put in a new fuel filter, thermostat, plugs, wires, dist. cap/rotor all new brakes/master cylinder, clutch, clutch master/slave cylinders and O2 sensor over the past year or so. Running 31x10.5 Dayton Timberline MT's with stock susp and stock gears.

Any ideas??

Thanks

The mud terrains are hurting you, they aren't really made for the street

do you really think that the tires are taking 5-7MPG?? I have been reading some of the other threads about mileage and others are getting 17-24MPG.

I am also working on getting headers and a larger flow exhaust. This should help some as well, right?

All I know is that I had an 87 4runner and it got far better gas mileage with the stock 235's than with my 31 inch mudder's I had over 200,000 miles on it too. I just think that the 22re's get tired and don't like to push big mud tires. But to answer your question, No I don't think the tires are taking 5-7 miles per gallon

My 3.0L was doing the same thing with the oil pressure. The cause was that the main bearings and journals were going out, causing the crank to be a little silly. The slowly deteriorating bearing eventually wore down my oil pump, then made the crank pulley fly off, then the crankshaft came out of the motor about 1/2". Double check the front of your motor.

Your oil pres is good. That is normal as long as it moves up when you give it gas. Those tires are not helping. that sounds like a normal mileage for city driving. Staight highway I get 20-23 with my pickup which is lighter then your runner. I have 30's AT for tires. I think it is tires and foot pressure. I can vary my milage by 5-7 just by the way I drive.

thanks guys..

Gonna put my snow tires on next weekend and see what happens. They are 235x75x15 stock size. I hope to be putting the headers on around christmas too, that should give me a little more mpg.
