5 speed
I am looking to convert my auto to a 5 speed manuel transmission and I am looking at this 1988 toyota 4runner 5 speed that also have a V6, so will it fit or run on to a 1992 4runner? I do not know what model is the 5 speed transmission is, but I do know that the 2nd gen. use R150F? 5 speed trans, so I am wondering if the 88' 4runner 5 speed will be ok on a 92' 4runner? I try searching for it but came up nothing.

The V6 came with the R150 right from birth in 88 to death in 95.
There might be some difference in the wiring(neutral start, cruise, etc), but they will bolt up.
Do the swap...it will make you happy, it certainly made me happy.

Thanks I'll just hope if the seller is still selling it at $1k, I am planning to buy his truck and swap his 5 speed into mine and I will throw my auto to the '88 so I am thinking that I just use everything I can to do the swap, that is better than buying it from a company that just offer the trans. alone and need to buy other parts for it, and might cost more than I am trying to buy this '88 truck. Thanks in advance.

umm...yeah. Swapping the 5-spd into your 90 won't be an issue, but putting the auto into the 88 is going to be a serious chore. Different wiring harnesses(and I think a different ECU).
When swapping in the 5-spd, you leave a lot of connectors hanging, and the auto ECU works fine with the manual. However the manual ECU may not work so well with the auto, and like I said lots more wires.

My auto ECU work fine on the '88 5 speed? will it throw any cel? if I was to get the 2nd gen. ECU m/t will that work also and how about if I use the '88 wire harness and transfer to my '92 wire harness will that work also? I will also transfer my auto wire harness to the '88 if that is possible a do. thanks again I am looking forward to diong the swap.
