Odd cranking issue on 1st gen.!?!?
My 88 4runner starts on the first hit ALMOST all the time. Now every now and then, it will turn over several times before it hits. Once it does, it will blow some black smoke like its loading up and then it clears up and runs and starts fine. It may sit a long time and start up fine. Then again, i may drive it a long time, cut it off, go to start it and the starting problem happens.
So, its not when its cold that I have the problem. I really can't narrow down when it seems to happen. Some one said leaking injector, coolant temp sensor, fuel pressure problem. The thing is, it just does it intermitantly.
