I have a 91 toyota pickup with 22RE. If the motor has not been ran in a while, it has trouble starting. Does not get any worse or any better with cold or hot weather. I turn it over for about 20-30 seconds while pressing and releasing the gas pedal and it slowly sputters to life. It will idle perfectly but if you give it the slightest amount of throttle it bogs out like it loses fire, and with the throttle still applied finally starts sputtering back to life and the rpms raise. It idles perfectly like there is nothing wrong. After the motor has been ran for a while, it will start and rev up just fine. But it still doesn't start like it used to with just a bump of the key switch. It now starts with about 2 full rotations of the motor. I have replaced the air flow meter, and I have no vacuum leaks. I was reading somewhere that the coolant temperature sensor could cause hard cold starts, but would it also keep the motor from reving up as soon as it is started? Could bad injectors cause a hard start and slowly get better as the motor warms up?

 

Sounds like your losing fuel pressure when it sits.

Try waiting for the fuel pressure to build up then crank.

Stepping on the throttle just gives it more air not fuel
