Unhappy no start with electrical problem

as i was driving home tonight i heard a pop sound which was then followed with all my interior lights going out, including the cluster light, and rear brake lights . The fuel and heating gauge arent working aswell. The headlights still work. After turning the car off, it wont even attempt to start or click. Is there a fuse that would cause this situation? I tried searching and only found one person with a similiar situation but no update on how it was fixed. tia.

Get a factory service manual wiring diagram and disconnect as many fuses that are fed off the 40a fuse and see if a new fuse still blows. If not, plug in a fuse at a time until the 40a goes, then trace what is on the circuit fed by the last fuse you inserted. Check all the large gauge wires for shorts, melted or damaged insulation, etc.

Esoterik, is that wiring diagram only for a 93+? The fuses and location are different from an 88, is the flow/path the same?

Guys forgot to mention this fuse blows without even turning the ign to on, Does that make any difference as to where to check? Would this indicate to check any line before the 40a fuse?

You need to get the FSM that is particular to your model year, small items might be different and you may find that the factory wiring was changed mid year making all the opinions useless.

Maybe search for wiring diagram, when I did it the correct ne for your truck was the third down.

NEVER FORGET, free advice can easily cost yo more than triple what the dealer or a reputable pro would charge you to fox this problem.
