Exclamation No power to cab

Good morning fellas, I hope someone here can help...again.

'85 4runner 5speed w/ a 22re from a '91 pickup

The alt. fried out last week and the starter was on its way out so I replaced them both, went to fire it up and no go. weird thing is, the rear window works(wired it direct) and the headlights work too I was thinking fusible link, but wouldn't that prohibit the headlighs from working? Then I suspected ignition switch, but the little digital clock that is ALWAYS on is now dead too!

I may very well be missing something simple. Any and all suggestions would be welcome. I have to sit here at work all day now and wonder whats wrong with my rig....drives me nutso....TIA

Or something as simple as the main ground wire on the block maybe?

I had a similar thing in my Camry. Replaced the starter and she still wouldn't turn over, even with getting 12v. Then I realized the stud holding the ground to the block had backed itself out more than an inch. Been running fine ever since.

I checked the fuses in the kick panel and they all look fine. One possibility just occurred to me. SInce the headlights work but the whole cab is dead, maybe the connection at the kick panel fuse box is bad. IIRC, the headlight fuses are under the hood. I really can't think of anything else. Might just swap in some new fuses anyway, i've had bad fuses "look" good before.

Good thought on the grounds. It's definately acting like a grounding issue. I did find a couple of questionable grounds fixed'm up but still nothing.

You have fuses under the hood also don't you? Also where that motor has been swapped I'd be looking for an inline fuse that whoever did the swap may have put in there. Really sounds like a fusible link tho.

Yeah, I was thinking fusible link too. But wouldn't that kill the headlights too? My limited understanding is, if the fusible link was out, the truck would be completely dead. Somebody correct me if that's wrong.

My Scout is broken down too. I had to carpool with my girlfreind this morning....how embarassing.

I just went and looked at my 81. I have 2 fusible links off the positive battery terminal. I bet you'll find one of those gone.

I've spent so much time staring blankly at the engine compartment that I can say with surety that ther is inded an open "socket" where a second fusible link could go. But why would there be two?

Gonzo, maybe I misunderstood "gone". I have one 80A male and what looks like one 30A female. If there are 2 fusible links and one is shot, that might explain why my headlights work but nothing else does...?? How can you tell if they're out? Do you have to detach the fuse box to loosen the fuse? I read on another post that they are secured in with screws.

Usually you can physically look at it and tell. It'll have a slight charred look to it. Now this isn't always the case, so go get a voltmeter, and work your way down the line, away from the Batt. As soon as you stop getting 12v, then you know where you're having a problem

If you pull on the fusible link it will stretch cause the wire inside the rubber is burned off like a fuse would. Take a test light and check for power from the fusible links is one way and prolly the easiest for you. You just have to keep testing along the wire until you find the break. Then replace it. Maybe someone on here can't post or send you a pic of the wiring that will make it easier on you. I don't have one.
It's really not all that hard to find. just take your time.If you were close to me I'd offer to help but not many on here live up here. LOL
Good luck.

Thanks for all the help guys. It was the Fusible link. the top of mine was all scuffed up so I had to pop off the top, but it was definately blown. Got a new one from the mf'n dealership =$12, and it started right up. Made it to work this morning and so far, so good...

Thanks again.
